Port of Seattle Whistleblowers Awarded $16 Million Settlement for Wrongful Termination Suit Against Sea-Tac

Our firm is thrilled to announce we represented former Seattle Port employees who were victims of wrongful termination, due to their resistance and refusal of breaking the law. They were also fired as a result of reporting the Port of Seattle and government’s misconduct. These employees reported all of their findings as breaches of ethics. After these employees refused to extend preferential airport restaurant leases to the friends of Port Commissioner John Creighton, his friends, and his campaign donors, there were victims of unlawful termination. These employees reported all of their findings as breaches of ethics.

The jury awarded Deanna Zachrisson $7,614,243 and Elaine Lincoln $8,897,099. During the litigation process, Commissioner Courtney Gregoire testified and confirmed the fact that Creighton had searched the employees’ emails because he suspected them of filing complaints against him, and had then harbored animosity against those whom he felt displayed “pushback” against his agenda.

Our legal team of Seattle employment attorneys at Frank Freed Subit & Thomas LLP were honored to represent these disenfranchised employees. Attorney Bloom stated: “The verdict is a tremendous victory for our community and for our clients who courageously refused to turn away when they saw the abuses of power taking place at the Port. Employers have a duty to protect employees from retaliation. Other employers should take this verdict to heart.”
